 Martin Luther King Jr. was born in 1929 and was an American Baptist minister and one of the most prominent leaders in the civil rights movement until his assassination in 1968. He participated in and led non violent marches for the right to vote, desegregation, labour rights and other civil rights. He was an inspirational speaker and delivered his famous "I have a dream" speech from the steps of the Lincoln memorial in Washington D.C. during the March on Washington. Soon after this speech Black Americans, through the Civil Rights Act 1964 and the Voting Rights Act 1965, won the right to vote, segregation ended and discrimination of people because of race became illegal.
